POINTS OF REFERENCE is a music news blog for people with actual lives and/or short attention spans: a weekly selection of topical, pop music talking points fit for bars and break rooms. It’s divided into three sections: NEWS (duh), ALBUM RELEASES (once more with feeling), and STUFF AND THINGS (random, music-related crap from the internet). So, I’m all finished up here. Scroll down, won’t you?

    NEWS:

    • Bonnaroo released its 2014 lineup which features festival foe Kanye West.
    • Devo guitarist Bob Casale passed away. He was 61.
    • Black Keys singer-guitarist/human cathedra Dan Auerbach is producing Lana Del Rey’s next album, apparently.
    • NBC debuted The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Lady Gaga, Will Smith, Bono, and Bono’s sunglasses made appearances.
    • 50 Cent departed Interscope Records.
    • Real Estate wants us to play along to “Crime,” the fourth single off their new LP “Atlas” (Domino).
    • Aberdeen, WA memorialized Kurt Cobain with a terrible statue.

    ALBUM RELEASES, FEB. 18:

Guided by Voices, “Motivational Jumpsuit” (Guided by Voices Inc.).

    Phantogram, “Voices” (Republic).

    STUFF & THINGS:

    • Between 1984 and 1987, John Stewart tended the bar at City Gardens, a famous punk club in Trenton, NJ. Cool. Beans.
    • Isabel and Ruben Toledo combine jazz and fashion.
    • Consequence of Sound proves parents are pretty hip.
