    Last week, we put out a list of 10 events that should be on your radar, and they can be found here. This week, there will be a couple more New Year’s-related events, some continuing holiday favorites and some continuing traditions. Of course, these are events to be shared with the company of others — friends, family and fellow community members you have yet to meet.

    With consideration to the global warming … err, um, unexpected and unseasonable weather, it’s an opportune time to enjoy it while it lasts.

    FRIDAY

    SATURDAY

    Temperature: 35 degrees / 27 degrees
    Conditions: Let it snow.

    SUNDAY 

    Temperature: 32 degrees / 19 degrees
    Conditions: Microwave those bean bags.

     

    3 Inch Fury

    Why not ring in the New Year with ringing ears? Have your self a hair band hayday with 3 Inch Fury in Mattydale. After all, the new year should begin with a nice dose of adrenaline.

    Aurora Polar Bear Plunge

    The annual plunge-into-the-new-year is once again taking place on the shores of Cayuga Lake. It get’s larger every year, so come celebrate CNY life and continue the tradition.

    Where: St. Patrick’s Church, 299 Main St., Aurora
    When: Friday, Jan. 1 | 11 a.m.

    Dare to Dream

    Come relive all of your favorite Disney moments… Wait. Come relive all of your favorite Disney princess-related moments with Tiana, Rapunzel, Snow White and more in this installment of Disney on Ice.

    Saturday, Jan. 2 | 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m.

    Don’t Feed the Actors

    Short_slogan_and_website2-250x300Central New York’s longest running improv comedy show is kicking off this week with their first show of the year at the CNY Playhouse in Shoppingtown Mall. If you haven’t seen them yet, their short-form style reflects that of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (and it’s just as comical).

    Lights on the Lake

    It’s the last weekend for Lights on the Lake. The two-mile-long light spectacular will most likely return next year, snow or no snow.

    Kitty Hoynes New Year’s Eve Dinner

    Celebrate the Irish way with comfort food, a Guinness or your favorite beverage. The pub is hosting two dinners and a champagne toast to go with each.

    LoFo New Year’s Eve Dinner

    New Year’s Run

    Literally start the new year with a running start. The Syracuse Track Club is is holding its 38th Annual New Year’s Run, beginning at Spaghetti Warehouse. Following the race is a buffet of veggie lasagna, ziti, chili and more. It’s encouraged to sign up before the race, but bringing a paper registration form and payment the morning of will be accepted.

    Binghamton native David Sedaris’ adaptation ends this year’s run at Syracuse Stage. Come see Crumpet’s one-person show and hear about his past experiences as an elf at Macy’s.

    Weekend Guided Walks

    Each weekend, stop by Beaver Lake Nature Center for guided walks and talks. This month, enjoy and learn about winter homes of the creatures that roam around the nature center.
