(PHOTOS) West Shore Trail Opens

Syracuse New Times photographer Michael Davis was at the opening day celebration of Onondaga Lake’s West Shore Trail on Sunday May 18th, 2014. Below are some photos he captured of the day’s events.

West Shore Trail – John Haley Memorial Trail

Located along the scenic western shore of Onondaga Lake, this paved trail meanders through over two miles of wind-sheltered woodlands. It is perfect for bicyclists, walkers, runners and nature enthusiasts. This side of Onondaga Lake is rich in history; several resorts and dance halls once stood here. If you are looking for a quiet change of pace, this is the trail for you. (source: Onondaga County Parks)

Parking:
NYS Fair Orange Lot, located off of I-690 Exit 7.

Directions:
From Points West: Take I-690 East to Exit 7, turn left onto State Fair Boulevard, take the first left passing under I-690, drive straight toward the lake and turn left and go up the hill to NYS Fair Orange Parking Lot.
From Points East: Take I-690 West to Exit 7, follow road, up the hill, to the NYS Fair Orange Parking Lot.
