A Job Well Dunn

By Kevin Corbett
You had to expect that Ronnie Dunn would rely heavily on material from his days as half of future Hall of Fame duo Brooks and Dunn when he played his first solo show Country Chatter at the New York State Fair’s Chevrolet Court on Aug. 30. Sure enough, there were plenty of the dynamic songs that had echoed through the Grandstand during B&D’s many shows there and they sounded great, but the future looks bright for the veteran singer who came armed with some dandy new songs, most he had written or co-written.

All about Aument

Sarah Aument and Best Coast - Westcott Theater, Friday, Sept. 9

By Jessica Zurell
Sarah Aument is a human tumbleweed. Chilly basement shows, dragging amplifiers through snow drifts and playing steamy sets at Rockwood Music Hall in Manhattan are moments she weaves into her work over time. To finish off a bug-bitten, refried beans-eating summer tour of the East Coast, she and her band are playing with Best Coast on Friday, Sept. 9, 8 p.m., at the Westcott Theater, 524 Westcott St.

His still-vibrant tenor climbed into falsetto on “Night Time Magic” leading into the flashy “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You)”, showing off their trademark Vegas style.

Behind the Music

By Samantha House
The YMCA has a reputation for encouraging good health through exercise and athletic development. But to Hank Leo and countless kids, it is so much more. “The” Y is often perceived as just a gym, a weight room. But the body isn’t the only focus,” Leo says. “We also try to nurture the spirit and the mind.” And one way the Y tries to care for young minds is through music.

Syracuse, RFD

That success solidified the brothers’ status as one of country’s premier vocal groups. They soared with such memorable numbers as “She Used to Be Somebody’s Baby” and “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” always featuring the stellar voice of Larry Gatlin, undoubtedly one of the best to ever caress a country tune.
