MIC, Take Two

The Music Industry Conference, MIC, is returning to OnCenter, 800 S. State St., on Friday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 12, this year featuring five music industry speakers. Friday’s headlining event will be the Syracuse Area Music Awards (Sammys).

Seems no entity is immune to the usual Syracuse doom and gloom, not even a sports team that gives us a reason to leave the house on a cold winter night. Other teams have succumbed to the fail culture. But not the Syracuse Crunch, which, with this 18th season, has established itself as the hockey franchise to beat locally.

At the 2011 Juneteenth Festival, reporters from The Stand, a community newspaper written for South Side residents, were on the hunt for a story. Donning South Side Stand T- shirts, they jotted notes during the parade and interviewed vendors. Following the festivities, they returned to The Stand’s office at 2331 S.

Imagine, just imagine, vehicles and bicycles coexisting on roadways as people make their way to work, to the store, to wherever. Sure it sounds like Montreal, or Copenhagen, but it’s also a vision many in Syracuse have harbored for years. And finally, after frustrating stops and starts, movement in a bike-friendly direction seems to be taking place.
