Police believe Jamie Minor, 26, tried to break into the Austin, Texas, restaurant where she worked by crawling through an exhaust duct leading to the office. She apparently became trapped when the duct tapered into an opening she couldn’t fit through, and she couldn’t back up.

While a sheriff’s deputy was giving Louis Cruz, 55, a sobriety test after stopping him for driving erratically in Okaloosa County, Fla., Cruz suggested that a “bad foot” might be affecting his response to the test. When he leaned down to show the deputy the foot, he accidentally revealed an ankle holster.

Authorities charged Carl Muggli, 49, with murdering his wife in Ray, Minn., despite his insistence that the 17-foottall totem pole the two were carving slipped out of its cradle and fell on her accidentally.

Camden, N.J., police Sgt. Jeffrey Frett, 40, plotted an early retirement by having his wife meet him while on patrol to shoot him in the leg so he could claim he’d been the victim of a random shooting. The scheme unraveled after a plainclothes officer passed the couple and noticed the wife’s van.

Police investigating a bank robbery in Houston, Texas, identified their suspects on Facebook. Following a tip, they discovered incriminating posts by teller Estefany Martinez, 19, (“IM RICH”), and her boyfriend, Ricky “Ricko Gee” Gonzalez, 18, (“WIPE MY TEETH WITH HUNDREDS” and another part of his anatomy with $50 bills).

Curses, Foiled Again After Domonique J. Loggins, 21, punched his 20-year-old girlfriend in the face during an argument while she was driving, the woman parked at a police station in suburban Joliet, Ill., and went inside to report the incident. When officers came outside, Loggins fled. He ran across a bridge and into a park, where, according to Deputy Chief Mike Trafton, “about 60 squad cars were parked.” Thirty Joliet cops and officers from other departments were in the park for a training session on “being prepared for any situation.” Loggins was quickly captured. After being handcuffed, he took off again, only to be recaptured by a police commander returning to the training session from lunch. (Chicago’s WLS Radio) When a man wearing a jacket hood over his face entered a bank in Columbus, Ohio, a bank employee informed him of the bank’s “no hats, no hoods” policy. Apparently hoping to avoid attracting attention, the man lowered the hood, according to FBI Special Agent Harry W. Trombitas, but then robbed the bank. Because his hood was down, however, surveillance cameras got a clear picture of his face. (The Columbus Dispatch)

Dexter White, 41, called 911 in North Charleston, S.C., complaining that he paid $60 to a drug dealer for crack cocaine but received only $20 worth of drugs and that the dealer refused to give him his $40 change. White said he smoked his crack before calling the cops, who arrested him anyway, for disorderly conduct.

After Eric Ford, 26, reported the theft of $2,300 worth of audio gear from his girlfriend’s vehicle in Lincoln, Neb., police told him it was unlikely to be recovered. Hours later, Ford, who works a business that installs car stereos, said a customer asked him to hook up a piece of equipment that Ford recognized as his girlfriend’s.

A surveillance video showed the man who stole two 24-packs of beer from a convenience store in Lake Wales, Fla., making his getaway. Before he made it to his car, however, his sagging jeans dropped, causing him to fall to the ground and sending cans of beer rolling in every direction.
