The new show at The Redhouse’s Joan Lukas Rothenberg Gallery, 201 S. West St., manages to capture the spontaneity of art itself. The artworks were co-painted by Erin Davies and Sonya Parish, who employed acrylic paint with liquid latex to create layers of colors and shapes that form when pieces of latex are peeled away from the canvas, such as the evocative image presented here. The exhibit has its opening reception on Thursday, June 16, 5 to 8 p.m., as part of the monthly Third Thursday citywide art shows. The evening will also feature an interactive piece where participants can peel layers of latex from the canvas to help discover the painting underneath. And following a 7 p.m. chat with the artists, Davies and filmmaker Kalima Young will screen their new film titled Living Proof, which concerns gay teenhood. Happy Accidents will end its run on July 16. The Redhouse’s art gallery is open by appointment, Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For details, call 425-0405.
