Good Week, Bad Week March 4

.
. . . . . .

TEXT VERSION

GOOD WEEK

. . . for our sister publication, Family Times,
recipient of three awards from Parenting Publications of America,
including a Gold for Humor column, by Maggie Lamond Simone, a Silver
for Eileen Gilligan’s Bright Ideas column, and a Silver for Michael
Davis and Lisa Mergler-Santoro’s Ancillary Cover of Baby Times. Of course, the cover model, Jackson Dufort, is the real star there!

. . . for government waste. You’d
think that in the midst of the worst economic crisis in our lifetimes
the state Department of Environmental Conservation would have better
ways to allocate their resources than killing the ugliest underwater
critter in the world: snakehead fish Rocky from Clay. Aren’t there more
important issues to tackle than some guy’s pet?

BAD WEEK

. . . for WTVH-Channel 5 employees,
40 of whom will need to find new jobs or move out of the area after
station owners, Granite Communications, fired them. Management at
WSTM-Channel 3 will now oversee Syracuse’s oldest television station,
the one that once employed Ron Curtis and Maureen Green. Does this mean
the section of James Street near WTVH won’t be called Ron Curtis
Parkway anymore?

. . . for obsessive text-messagers.
Beware driving toward Albany, where Montgomery and now Schenectady
counties have banned the dangerous practice if you’re driving. One
study shows that texting while driving is even more dangerous than
drinking and driving or even smoking pot and driving. Even worse,
texting leads to bad spelling errors.
