Pay Scales

.
. . . . . .

Over the last 30 years, New York
State has reduced income taxes on the wealthiest New Yorkers by more
than 50 percent and eliminated high income tax brackets so that working
class families and the very rich pay the same rate. If you make
$40,000, $400,000, or $4 million, you pay the same 6.85 percent tax
rate. Whatever happened to the progressive income tax structure we had
in this state and country whereby those who earned more had a moral
obligation to pay more income taxes.   The
Central New York Alliance for Retired Americans has joined a coalition
of like-minded social justice groups in advocating for tax reform in
order to ensure the budget crisis will not cause irreparable harm to
the citizens of the Empire State. Please write a letter or call your
state senator and Senate Majority leader Malcolm A. Smith imploring
them to raise taxes on wealthy New Yorkers who are making over
$250,000. It is time we return to a progressive income tax structure in
New York State.
