Don’t park here: Instead seek out the reduced parking fees at five of the city’s downtown garages. MD PHOTO

Dubbed Park on Us, the program offers one hour of free parking and a second hour for $1 at the designated garages for patrons who have their parking stubs validated at any of the nearly 80 downtown businesses participating. Those include several restaurants, retail stores, service businesses and cultural establishments. The Downtown Committee and city of Syracuse will be jointly marketing this pilot program, with the intent to encourage short-term, off-street parking.

The five city garages designated for the program are: Washington Street Garage, corner of West and Washington streets; HSBC Bank Garage, corner of West Jefferson and South Warren streets; Fayette Street Garage, corner of Montgomery and East Fayette streets; AXA Garage, corner of Harrison and Montgomery streets; Harrison Street Garage, corner of Harrison Street and Harrison Place.

“While on-street parking spaces are always at a premium, we have ample space in our garages,” noted Driscoll. “This is a creative way for downtown visitors to begin using convenient first-floor spaces in city parking garages and it gives downtown merchants a way to reward their customers.”
