Growing Pains

.
. . . . . .

A lot can change in 10 years, but a lot can stay the same. This was photographer Blake Fitch’s idea when he set out to capture Kate, his youngest sister, and Julia, her cousin, as they matured from adolescents to young adults. Fitch’s 10-year project forms the exhibition Expectations of Adolescence, which opens Tuesday, April 1, at Light Work Gallery, 316 Waverly Ave. Fitch captures candid and intimate images of the family in an autobiographical way that no one else could; the two girls are shown as their own identities slowly took shape, be it at a dance recital or the way they look at themselves in the mirror. The display, which runs through July 18, will also have a reception on April 10, 5 to 8 p.m. Also on view at Light Work is the exhibit Educating Artists: Photography Programs in Review. Admission to the gallery is free. For more information, call 443-1300.
